4 Day Morocco Desert Tour

Much More Than a Transfer to the Sahara

This 4 Day Morocco Desert Tour from Marrakech is designed for travelers who want to experience the journey itself, not just the final destination. Over four unforgettable days, cross the High Atlas Mountains, discover Telouat and Ait Ben Haddou, spend a peaceful night in the Skoura Oasis, travel through the Rose Valley and Todra Gorge, and arrive in Merzouga for an authentic Sahara experience.

After your night in Erg Chebbi, the route moves away from the usual tourist circuit for a private picnic beneath the Anti-Atlas Mountains before continuing through the legendary Draa Valley to a traditional kasbah surrounded by palms and desert landscapes.

On the final day, retrace the southern mountain route toward Marrakech and experience the landscapes from a completely different perspective.

Your 4-Day Marrakech to Merzouga Desert Journey

Each day has a realistic planning window. Because this is a private tour, departure times and stops can remain flexible depending on season, traffic, weather, daylight and your preferred pace.

Day 1Atlas & Kasbahs

Marrakech → Telouat → Ait Ben Haddou → Skoura Oasis

Approx. 08:00–18:30

Your 4 Day Morocco Desert Tour from Marrakech begins in the morning with your private 4x4 and driver-guide. Leaving Marrakech behind, climb gradually into the High Atlas Mountains and cross the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka pass.

Telouat — A Forgotten Mountain Story

Instead of taking the fastest route to Ouarzazate, turn toward Telouat, once an important stop on the ancient caravan routes linking the Sahara with Marrakech. Explore the fascinating Kasbah of Telouat, where history, architecture and the dramatic Atlas landscape meet.

Continue through the beautiful Ounila Valley along an old caravan route between villages, fields and red-rock mountains.

Ait Ben Haddou

Walk through the narrow lanes of this legendary fortified village, discover its earthen architecture and learn about the caravans that once passed through this gateway to the Sahara.

Rather than rushing onward, continue south to the peaceful Skoura Oasis, surrounded by palm groves, ancient kasbahs and agricultural villages.

Overnight: Skoura Oasis
Approximate driving: 6–7 hours including stops
Day 2Gorges to Sahara

Skoura → Rose Valley → Todra Gorge → Merzouga

Approx. 08:30–18:30

Wake up surrounded by the palms and kasbahs of Skoura. After breakfast, travel eastward toward the Valley of Roses, where small villages and cultivated fields stretch between the mountains.

In spring, the valley becomes especially fragrant with roses traditionally harvested by local families to produce rose water and other natural products.

Todra Gorge

Stop for a walk through the spectacular gorge, where enormous limestone walls rise dramatically above the narrow valley. After time for a walk and lunch nearby, continue across the changing landscapes of southeastern Morocco.

Little by little, the mountains give way to wider desert plains. Then the first golden dunes of Erg Chebbi appear in the distance — you have arrived in Merzouga.

Your Sahara Evening

Depending on the season and arrival time, begin your camel experience toward the desert camp as the dunes change color in the evening light. At camp, enjoy a Moroccan dinner, Amazigh music and a peaceful night beneath the stars.

Overnight: Private desert camp in Merzouga / Erg Chebbi
Approximate driving: 5–6 hours excluding stops
Day 3Off the Main Route

Merzouga → Anti-Atlas Picnic → Draa Valley → Traditional Kasbah

Approx. 08:30–18:00

Wake early if you wish to watch sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast, your private journey moves away from the busier desert routes toward the wild, open landscapes beneath the Anti-Atlas Mountains.

A Private Picnic Beneath the Mountains

Instead of another standard restaurant stop, enjoy a relaxed picnic surrounded by dramatic desert and mountain scenery. Take your time over Moroccan food and tea while enjoying the silence of southern Morocco.

Entering the Draa Valley

Continue toward one of southern Morocco’s great natural corridors. Thousands of date palms appear between the mountains, forming a long green ribbon through an otherwise arid landscape.

The Draa Valley was historically one of Morocco’s great caravan routes connecting the Sahara with the north. Travel through palm-filled villages and traditional settlements before reaching a beautiful kasbah hidden among the palms.

Overnight: Traditional Kasbah in the Draa Valley
Approximate driving: 5–6 hours including stops
Day 4Return to Marrakech

Draa Valley → High Atlas Mountains → Marrakech

Approx. 08:30–18:00

After breakfast, begin the final chapter of your private Sahara journey. Leaving the Draa Valley behind, gradually travel north as the landscapes transform from palm groves and desert plateaus to mountain valleys, villages and high passes.

Reconnect with the southern mountain route used on the first day, but experience the road from a completely different perspective. There is time for photographs, local stops and a final Moroccan lunch before crossing the High Atlas Mountains once more.

Arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon or evening, carrying memories of kasbahs, mountain roads, rose valleys, dramatic gorges, golden dunes, oasis palms and the silence of the Sahara.

Tour ends in Marrakech
Timing note: all times are approximate planning windows. Your tour is private, so the schedule can adapt to season, sunrise/sunset, road conditions, photography stops and your personal pace.
